Serving others – traction

I believe serving others is a relational traction point; one that we should explore. What does servanthood require of me? In the Bible I read the story of Jacob and Rachel in Genesis 29. Jacob loved Rachel and he wanted to marry her. He was motivated to serve her dad Laban and made him a deal to be able to marry Rachel. In his service to obtain Rachel as his wife, he discovered something. Check this out from the story…”So Jacob served seven years to get Rachel, but they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her.” Genesis 29:20

Fascinating; he served seven years but they seemed like only a few days because of his love for her. I experienced exactly this about a month ago when I helped daughter Ellie put together a dresser she bought from IKEA. Whoa! Constructing a dresser, following the directions, etc., is way out of my comfort zone (see picture). Have you ever experienced this…time flying by in the midst of serving another out of love for that person? I’d love to hear your story.
